Description

The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, one of the very few complete branch lines in the UK, held several successful events and hauled thousands of passengers, along the picturesque five mile branch line throughout 2021.

Throughout the year, the railway has hosted events including their Mixed Traction gala, ‘Back In Steam’ services following the third national lockdown, celebrated the 51st anniversary of ‘The Railway Children’ and ‘The Elf Express’ returned for another year.

Mince Pie Specials – January 2021:

The first weekend of 2021 saw the conclusion of the festive services. Running through snow showers, BR 2MT No.78022 hauled what would be the final services until April 2021, due to the national lockdown.

Railway Re-opening & Covid Services – Spring 2021:

The railway re-opened to passengers on the 18th April 2021, once again running with compartment stock. LMS 4F No.43924 hauled services during the re-opening weekend. ‘Covid Services’ continued to run throughout the spring, utilising BR 2MT No.78022, LMS 4F No.43924 and USATC S160 No.5820.

Vintage Train Services – Summer 2021:

Vintage train services returned for the main summer season, hauled by LMS 2MT No.41241 and a selection of the vintage coaches from the Vintage Carriage Museum at Ingrow and the Lancashire & Yorkshire Trust.

Railway Children Anniversary Gala – August Bank Holiday Weekend:

Postponed by a year because of Covid, the railway celebrated the 51st anniversary since the filming of ‘The Railway Children’. Lancashire & Yorkshire ‘Ironclad’ No.957 was running-in around Keighley, having returned to traffic sporting it’s fictional ‘Railway Children’ livery.

Mixed Traction Gala – September 2021:

The Mixed Traction gala returned for the 2021 season, featuring visiting diesel locomotives Class 26 007 and Class 27 001. Home fleet locomotives included Class 20 031, BR 2MT No.78022, Lancashire & Yorkshire ‘Ironclad’ No.957, LMS 4F No.43924 and USATC S160 No.5820. The weekend featured a mixture of passenger, vintage, freight and express services.

‘Bahamas’ Running Weekend – October 2021:

Having returned from its summer of mainline running, LMS 6P No.45596 ‘Bahamas’ hauled services over the final weekend of October 2021, ahead of winter maintaince at Haworth.

Return of LMS 5MT No.45212 – November 2021:

Having returned from spending 2021 in Scotland, LMS 5MT No.45212 once again graced the Worth Valley, hauling passenger services throughout November.

‘The Elf Express’ – December 2021:

After its successful introduction during 2020, ‘The Elf Express’ services returned to the Worth Valley. Running between Oxenhope and ‘Kringle Town’, services were hauled by LMS 4F No.43924, LMS 2MT No.41241 and BR 2MT No.78022.

A wide collection of running days are featured throughout the DVD including lineside shots, an aspect not usually available to the general public.
