Cockerill Type IV No.8 ‘Lucie’

0-4-0 ‘Lucie’ is a type IV vertical boilered steam locomotive built by the John Cockerill Company 1890. ‘Lucie’ started life as a tram, working for the East Brussels Tram company, often working funeral, passenger and the odd freight services. ‘Lucie’ returned to the UK in 1987 and spent time at both Peak Rail and the Middleton Railway. ‘Lucie’ is now based at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, often used to heat coaching stock during the colder months and providing shunting demonstrations during events.

For the summer 2021 season, ‘Lucie’ visited the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway to haul their ‘Stately Train Services’. During the morning the locomotive ran with a several freight wagons, the afternoon included two of the vintage coaches drawn from the ‘Stately Train’ collection.
