Description
The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway (L&YR) was a major British railway company before the introduction of the ‘1923 Groupings’. The company was incorporated in 1847 from an amalgamation of several existing railways; it was the third-largest railway system based in northern England.
On 1st January 1922, the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway company merged with the London & North Western Railway (LNWR), one year before the ‘grouping’ to form four large companies.
2022, one hundred years on, heritage railways across both Lancashire and Yorkshire have celebrated the centenary of the two companies merging. Several locomotives that originated from the Lancashire & Yorkshire Company are still operating, which have appeared at events throughout the year. This DVD features footage from events at the East Lancashire Railway, Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway and Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.
Events included on this DVD:
1st January 2022 – ‘The Centenary Day’
