Description

Celebrating the 50th anniversary since the original re-opening of the West Somerset Railway, sit back and watch all the action from the spectacular four-day event, including visiting locomotives, triple-headed Great Western Manors, goods trains and more.

2026 marked the 50th anniversary of revived passenger services along the West Somerset Railway, the UK’s longest heritage railway. Originally reopened in March 1976 between Minehead and Blue Anchor, with services extended to Williton later that year, the railway now runs for over 20 miles to Bishops Lydeard. The railway hosted a four-day 50th Anniversary Spring Steam Spectacular, featuring ten steam locomotives hauling a variety of goods and passenger services. This product allows you to sit back and enjoy the action from lineside locations across all four days between Bishops Lydeard and Minehead.

Event highlights:
– The event featured three Great Western Manor locomotives: GWR No.7802 ‘Bradley Manor’, GWR No.7812 ‘Erlestoke Manor’, and GWR No.7828 ‘Odney Manor’. On the Friday evening, all three Manors triple-headed a passenger service to Minehead.

– The event featured visiting locomotive LNER A4 No.60007 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’ which hauled services across the weekend, the first LNER A4 to haul passenger services at the railway since A4 No.60019′ Bittern’ last visited in 2009.

– The event featured a number of smaller visiting locomotives, including Bagnall No.2996 ‘Victor’, which hauled the first passenger service at the West Somerset Railway in 1976 and Hunslet No.1589 ‘Newstead’.

Footage from all four days of the event is included, featuring a wide selection of shots carefully chosen from locations across the 20-mile railway. This product also includes selected aerial videography, capturing scenes from above and showcasing the West Somerset Railway from a fresh new perspective.
