‘The Great Britain’ returned for its eighteenth annual tour of the UK in April 2026. Travelling across England, Scotland, and Wales, passengers were treated to eight days of steam-hauled action, including many unusual and rare routes for steam traction.

This product allows you to follow the tour from the lineside across days 1-8, with accompanying maps, location titles and gradient profile information. From the south coast of England to the Scottish Highlands, you can sit back and watch all the action from various lineside locations.

Route information:
Day 1 – London Paddington to Penzance via Exeter St Davids – Locations: Bedwyn Station, Crofton Locks, Whiteball, Rattery Bank, St German’s, Chacewater, Blackwater Viaduct and St Erth Station. Light engine movement at Hayle Viaduct and St Blazey Turntable.
Day 2 – Penzance to Chester via the Welsh Marches – Locations: Angarrack Viaduct, Connor Downs, Camborne, Bodmin Parkway Station, East Largin Viaduct, Hemerdon Bank, Tiverton Parkway, Whiteball Summit, Huntspill, Newport, Abergavenny & Ludlow Station.
Day 3 – Chester to Carlisle via the Mid-Cheshire line, Hope Valley and Settle & Carlisle Railway – Locations: Mouldsworth, Chinley, Cowburn Tunnel, Swaithe Viaduct, Swaithe, Gargrave Viaduct, Langcliffe and Ais Gill. ECS Stock movement to Carnforth seen at Lowther Viaduct and Eden Valley Loops.
Day 4 – Carlisle to Fort William via the Glasgow and South Western Railway – Locations: Dornock, New Cumnock, Dumbarton Bridge, Glen Falloch Viaduct, Glen Falloch, Fillan Viaduct, Upper Tyndrum and Bridge Of Orchy.
Day 5 – Fort William to Mallaig and return – Locations: Corpach, approaching Glenfinnan, Glenfinnan Summit, Polnish, Beasdale Station, Beoraidbeg Hill. Return journey leaving Mallaig and Loch nan Uamh Viaduct.
Day 6 – Fort William to Aberdeen via Dundee – Locations: Monessie Gorge, Allt Kinglass Viaduct, Fillan Viaduct, Glen Douglas, Gleneagles and Lunan Bay.
Day 7 – Aberdeen to Newcastle via the Forth Bridge and Edinburgh – Locations: Carmont, Montrose Bridge, Tay Bridge, Cockburnspath, Fenham, Widdrington and Clifton.
Day 8 – Newcastle to London Euston via the Midland Mainline – Locations: Raskelf, Colton Junction and Hasland.

The tour was steam hauled by: SR WC No.34028 ‘Eddystone’, LMS 5MT No.45407 ‘The Lancashire Fusilier’ and SR BoB No.34067 ‘Tangmere’.
