Description

‘The Great Britain’ returned for its sixteenth annual tour of the UK in April 2024. Travelling across England, Scotland, and Wales, passengers were treated to nine days of steam-hauled action, including many unusual and rare routes for steam traction.

This product allows you to follow the tour from the lineside across days 1-8, with accompanying maps, location titles and gradient profile information. From the Lickey Incline to the Scottish Hills, you can sit back and watch all the action from various lineside locations.

Route information:
Day 1 – London Victoria to Cheltenham via Kent – Locations: Horton Kirby Viaduct, Newington, Ripple, Sandling, Cators Foot Crossing and South Moreton
Day 2 – Cheltenham to Lancaster via the West Coast Mainline – Locations: Lickey Incline (2 shots), Vigo Bridge Crossing, Hatton Mill, Stableford and Garstang
Day 3 – Lancaster to Glasgow via the Settle & Carlisle Railway – Locations: Helwith Bridge, Lazonby, Closeburn, Kirkconnell and Glengarnock Station
Day 4 – Glasgow to Inverness over the Druimuachdar and Slochd summits – Locations: Blackford, Bog Wood, Gleneagles, Murthly, Dalnaspidal, Pass of Drumochter and Slochd Summit
Day 5 – Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh and return – Locations: Fodderty, approaching Achnasheen, Loch Gowan, Luib Summit, Badicaul, Luib Summit, Loch Sgamhain, Loch a’ Chuilinn, Dingwall and Beauly
Day 6 – Inverness to Edinburgh via Aberdeen – Locations: Gollanfield, Huntly, Cult, Ferryden Viaduct, Longforgan, Errol, North Queensferry Station and the Forth Bridge
Day 7 – Edinburgh to Liverpool via the West Coast Mainline – Locations: Linhouse Viaduct, Crawford, Wamphray, Lockerbie, Castlemilk, Bessygill (2 shots) and Garstang
Day 8 – Liverpool Lime Street to Swansea – Locations: Edge Hill Cutting, Chirk Viaduct, Knucklas Viaduct and Sugar Loaf

The tour was steam hauled throughout, featuring multiple steam locomotives: LMS 5MT No.44871, LMS 5MT No.45407 ‘The Lancashire Fusilier’, and SR BoB No.34067 ‘Tangmere’.
