NER P3 No.2392 leaves Goathland at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Taken during a Matt Fisher photo charter on the 29th November 2023.

Now owned by the North East Locomotive Preservation Group (NELPG), NER P3 No.2392 is currently operating at the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway.

Locomotive history:

Built at Darlington Works in 1923, NER Class P3 No.2392 was the final member of a class of 115 0-6-0 goods locomotives designed by Wilson Worsdell for the North Eastern Railway. Later classified J27 by the LNER, the class was developed for heavy freight duties and became renowned for its strength and reliability, continuing to work in the North East well into the final years of steam.
No.2392 entered service in September 1923 and later became LNER No.5894 and BR No.65894. Withdrawn from British Railways in 1967, it was purchased directly for preservation by the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group. Restored to its original NER identity, No.2392 became an important part of the early North Yorkshire Moors Railway operation, hauling services before the railway officially reopened in 1973. After further overhauls, it continues to represent the robust engineering of the North Eastern Railway and remains the sole surviving example of the P3/J27 class.
