Locomotive history:

Built at Doncaster Works in 1937, LNER A4 Pacific No.60007 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley‘ was the first locomotive of its class to be completed after the death of its designer, Sir Nigel Gresley. The A4s were developed for high-speed passenger services on the London & North Eastern Railway’s East Coast Main Line, becoming world famous for their streamlined design and exceptional performance. No.60007 achieved a post-war record run in 1959, covering the 188 miles from King’s Cross to Edinburgh in just 3 hours 59 minutes.
Withdrawn from British Railways service in 1966, ‘Sir Nigel Gresley‘ was preserved and became a flagship locomotive of the heritage railway movement. Following extensive restoration work, it returned to steam in 2016 and continues to operate on heritage railways and main line railtours. As one of only six surviving A4 Pacifics, it remains an iconic example of British locomotive engineering and a lasting tribute to the achievements of the LNER.
