LMS 5MT No.45212 hauls the afternoon ‘Jacobite’ service across Loch nan Uamh Viaduct on the 25th September 2020.

The Jacobite is a popular daily railtour from Fort William to Mallaig in Scotland, operating twice daily throughout the summer months. The journey passes beneath Britain’s highest mountain, crosses the world-famous Glenfinnan Viaduct and showcases some of the finest scenery in the Highlands.

Locomotive history:

Built at Armstrong Whitworth’s Scotswood Works in 1935, LMS Black Five No.45212 was one of the first batch of William A. Stanier’s highly successful mixed traffic 4-6-0 locomotives. Designed to handle both passenger and freight duties, the Class became one of the most numerous and respected locomotive designs in British railway history, with 842 examples built between 1934 and 1951.
No.45212 spent much of its working life in the North West and Yorkshire regions, hauling a wide variety of services before withdrawal from British Railways in 1968. Preserved by the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, No.45212 has become a popular performer on the Worth Valley and beyond, including mainline railtours, operated by Riley & Son’s Ltd and West Coast Railways.
