Description

The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, the only complete branch line in the UK has held many successful events and hauled thousands of passengers along the picturesque five mile branch line throughout 2012.

This review of 2012 gives a round up of the action from throughout the year, the railway held many events including their famous Winter and Autumn Steam Gala events.

Winter Steam Gala, 10th – 12th February:

The Winter Steam Gala had a flavour of the London & North Western Railway as visiting engine G2A No.49395 joined newly restored ‘Coal Tank’ No.1054.
LNWR G2A No.49395 is now part of the National Collection and returned to steam in 2005, No.49395 is the sole surviving engine from its class of engines. ‘Coal Tank’ No.1054 is also the only surviving engine of its class and is now one of the oldest working steam engines, built in 1888. The engine returned to steam at Ingrow West during early 2012. For the Winter Steam Gala the engine was transformed into BR Black as No.58926.

On the Friday of the event the two engines No.58926 & No.49395 hauled a service from Keighley to Oxenhope recreating the final train from Abergavenny to Merthyr organised by the SLS. ‘Coal Tank’ No.58926 was significant to the event as this was the exact ‘Coal Tank’ that took part in the event. G2A No.49395 was re-numbered to No.49121 to reflect the G2A class of engine that took part.

Autumn Steam Gala, 12th – 14th October:

The Autumn Steam Gala of 2012 focused around a fond farewell to two of the Worth Valley’s finest, as LMS 2MT No.41241 and Lancashire & Yorkshire ‘Ironclad’ No.957 starred at their final steam gala events under their current boiler tickets.

Featuring alongside these two iconic engines were Lancashire & Yorkshire ‘A’ Class No.1300, visiting the railway after recent repairs. For the first time in preservation two historic L&Y liveried locomotives worked together on a passenger train. Also visiting the railway for the first time was BR 4MT No.43106 from the Severn Valley Railway. The engine visited the railway to accompany LMS 2MT No.41241.

Other events were held at the railway during 2012 including the return of ‘Coal Tank’ No.1054, Santa Special services and many others too. A wide collection of running days are featured throughout the DVD including lineside shots, an aspect not usually available to the general public.
