The Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway, a 5-mile heritage railway in Scotland, runs through picturesque countryside between Bo’ness and Manuel Junction, passing Kinneil and Birkhill stations. This product allows you to hop onboard the footplate and travel between Bo’ness and Manuel Junction, featuring Caledonian Railway 0-4-4T No.55189.
Caledonian Railway 0-4-4T No. 55189
Built by the Caledonian Railway at St Rollox Works, Glasgow, in 1907, No.419 was designed for branch line work, fast suburban runs, and banking duties. Saved by the Scottish Railway Preservation Society in 1964, the locomotive returned to steam in 1971. Today, it can be seen operating at the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway. For the 2023 season, the locomotive was repainted into its BR Black livery.

Join the crew of CR 0-4-4T No.55189 and travel between Bo’ness and Manuel onboard the first departure of the 2023 Autumn Steam Gala, which consisted of ‘Caley Tank’ 55189, visiting locomotive Lamton Tank No.29, 6 MK1 coaches, the goods, and 0-6-0ST NCB No. 19. Using new technology and filmed in 4K, you’re able to witness No.55189 working hard from a whole new perspective.
Whilst watching this product, you’re able to follow No.55189 from a series of different angles, including onboard the footplate, smokebox handrails, the front lamp bracket, bunker, water tanks, and from the motion gear.
Footage is also included from the lineside, showcasing No.55189 at several different viewpoints along the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway, filmed throughout 2023.
Viewing options when watching this product:
There are three viewing options for this product, which include:
Option 1: Sit back and watch the action from the footplate, with several different camera angles including views from the lineside. You’ll travel from Bo’ness to Manuel. This option includes short titles informing you of key locations and the gradient profile along the route.
Option 2: Similar to the previous option, however this option doesn’t feature the lineside action, titles and gradient profile information.
Option 3: Take in the picturesque scenery along the 5-mile route and watch from the front lamp bracket, unedited for the full trip between Bo’ness and Kinneil.
Product Overview:
This product features no commentary, allowing you to fully appreciate the sound of the steam locomotive working hard. Short titles are included throughout informing you of key locations and gradients. We’re currently editing this product, copies will be available to pre-order later in 2024.
